UAE Trademark Registration: What the New One-Day Examination Option Means for Businesses

A business name, logo or product brand can become one of a company’s most valuable assets. Registering a trademark in the UAE helps businesses protect that identity as they grow.

Trademark applications have been increasing. The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism reported 19,957 national and international registrations in the first half of 2025, up 129% from the first half of 2024. The Ministry has also introduced an expedited examination option for trademark applications.

What does the one-day examination option mean?

The Ministry lists an expedited examination fee of AED 2,250, compared with AED 750 for regular examination. The expedited option is for examination within one business day. It does not mean the trademark is automatically approved or fully registered in one day. The application still needs to go through the required steps, including publication and the objection period.

Why should businesses register their trademarks?

Registering a trademark can help a business:

  • Protect the brand name or logo used for its goods or services.
  • Build a stronger foundation for marketing and expansion.
  • Support action if another party uses a similar mark.
  • Record ownership of a key business asset.

A trade name and a trademark serve different purposes. A trade name is used to identify the business with its licensing authority, while trademark registration is handled by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism.

What should you prepare before applying?

Before submitting an application, consider:

  1. Choose the mark
Decide whether to apply for a business name, logo or another brand feature.

  2. Check the goods and services
Identify the categories that match what the business offers or plans to offer.

  3. Review the application details
Make sure the owner’s details and mark are accurate and consistent.

  4. Prepare supporting documents
The Ministry lists a copy of the trademark and, for company applicants, a copy of the trade licence. If an agent submits the application, a certified and notarised power of attorney may also be required.

  5. Plan for the full process
After examination, an accepted mark is published. The Ministry provides a 30-day period for objections before final registration.

What are the main published fees?

The Ministry currently lists these standard fees for trademark registration:

  • Examination: AED 750
  • Publication: AED 750
  • Final registration: AED 5,000

The expedited examination fee is AED 2,250. Additional costs may apply depending on the application, number of categories and professional support required. Confirm the applicable fees with the Ministry before filing.

Plan your brand protection early

Trademark registration is easier to plan before a business launches a new product, starts a marketing campaign or enters another market. An early review can help identify the correct mark, categories and documents before the application is submitted.
