UAE E-Invoicing: What Businesses Need to Do Before the 2027 Deadlines

The UAE is moving towards a new electronic invoicing system for business transactions. For companies, this means reviewing how invoices are created, sent, received and recorded.

The rollout is already in progress. The Ministry of Finance launched the pilot phase in July 2026, and the system is moving towards mandatory implementation in stages. Businesses should use the time available to review their invoicing process and plan for the requirements that apply to them.

What is e-invoicing?

E-invoicing is the electronic exchange of invoice data through the UAE’s designated system. It is designed to standardise and automate how businesses send and receive invoice information, with data reported to the Federal Tax Authority.

It is more than sending a regular invoice by email. Businesses will need to consider whether their invoicing and accounting processes can work with the new system and with an Accredited Service Provider (ASP).

Which businesses should start preparing?

The system applies to business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions, subject to specific exclusions. The Ministry of Finance has set different implementation dates based on annual revenue and entity type.

Business categoryASP appointment deadlineMandatory implementation
Annual revenue of AED 50 million or more30 October 20261 January 2027
Annual revenue below AED 50 million31 March 20271 July 2027
Government entities31 March 20271 October 2027

The AED 50 million ASP deadline was extended from 31 July to 30 October 2026. The Ministry has confirmed that the mandatory implementation date for this group remains 1 January 2027.

What should businesses review now?

A practical readiness review can help identify issues before onboarding and integration begin. Businesses can start by checking:

  • Annual revenue: Confirm which implementation phase applies.
  • Invoice volume and types: Review the invoices and credit notes the business issues and receives.
  • Customer and supplier records: Check that names, tax registration details and other key information are complete and consistent.
  • Accounting and invoicing software: Discuss compatibility and integration requirements with the software provider.
  • Accredited Service Provider: Review available providers and plan the appointment process.
  • Internal responsibilities: Decide who will manage invoice data, approvals, corrections and system access.

The Ministry has encouraged businesses in scope to select an ASP, complete the necessary arrangements and progress onboarding and technical integration through EmaraTax.

Why start early?

Preparing early gives a business time to check its records, address data gaps and coordinate with its accounting or software provider. It can also help avoid a rushed transition close to the applicable deadline.

The Ministry has noted that the pilot phase is being used to test the end-to-end process, technical integration and operational readiness. Businesses can follow official updates as the system continues to develop.

A simple e-invoicing readiness checklist

  • Confirm the company’s annual revenue and likely implementation phase.
  • Review the applicable ASP appointment and go-live dates.
  • Check invoice and credit note data for missing or inconsistent details.
  • Speak with the accounting software provider about integration.
  • Review the Ministry’s latest guidance and list of service providers.
  • Assign an internal contact to coordinate implementation.

UAE e-invoicing is an important part of tax compliance planning for businesses. Reviewing the timeline and current invoicing process now can help companies prepare for a smoother transition.
